I’ve been researching a lot about chemicals and what we need to do to PULLAerosol THEM OUT! All to come in the greatly anticipated Nature’s Detox Book. Here are the most common household offenders!

  1.  AIR FRESHENERS:  Many air fresheners have carcinogens, volatile organic compounds and toxins such as phthalate esters in their formulas. A Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) study of 13 common household air fresheners found that most of the surveyed products contain chemicals that can aggravate asthma and affect reproductive development. All air-fresheners tested gave off chemicals regulated as toxic or hazardous under federal laws, including carcinogens with no safe exposure level
  2. CANDLES:  According to a study by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 40 percent of candles on the market contain lead wires inside their wicks. Scented candles most commonly contain lead wicks. Fragrance oils soften the wax, so the manufacturers use lead to make the wicks firmer.
  3. SHAMPOO, SOAPS, DETERGENTS:  Strange as it sounds your own hygiene products can by endocrine disrupters affecting the thyroid and the reproductive glands and putting one at risk for cancer replication.  These products should be purchased at a health food store from biodegradable and natural ingredients.
  4. ANTIPERSPIRANTS:   Aluminium is the active ingredient that inhibits sweating in these antiperspirants.  Firstly sweating is a natural excretion that is necessary to remove toxins from the body and chronic absorption of aluminum is associated with nerve degenerative conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzeimer’s disease.
  5. PLASTIC:  SHOWER CURTAINS, FOOD CONTAINERS:    plastics and phthalates cause birth defects, and endocrine disorders and hormonal cancers.  Because it is so readily absorbed, avoid food that is in direct contact with plastic such as water bottles and avoid heating any food or edible substance in a plastic container or styrofoam.  Food products like cheese, butter, vegetable oils in plastic containers and meat absorb the plastic more readily because the plastics are more fat soluble.  It is important to actually rinse, wipe or cut food stuffs that are in direct contact with plastic for an extended period and do not buy any oils stored in plastic.   Shower curtains contact the heat of the shower and release similar chemicals in the air which are breathed into the lungs and pass into the blood stream.
