“ROUNDUP” a Probable CANCER Risk

roundup-cancer-pesticidesEUROPEAN DOCTORS PETITION the European Union to BAN the herbicide ROUNDUP as it is now considered a “PROBABLE CANCER RISK” by the World Health Organization – along with multiple other agrochemicals.

Roundup is an herbicide that is commonly sprayed on crops that have had their genes altered (GMOs) so weeds can be killed yet the crop will survive. The chemical in Roundup is called GLYPHOSATE and has also been linked to birth defects, infertility, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, MS, kidney disease and IBS. Now the research has clearly convinced doctors in the European Union that it also causes CANCER.

Europe already has much lower chemical levels in their food. Less than 10% of European food samples contains herbicides or pesticides while 80% of the United States’ food supply is contaminated with glyphosate!

It seems that buying organic and supporting local farmers is becoming the topic of conversation for this century. As I see it, there is less of an issue with the actual GMOs and the big issue is the chemicals that are being used on the GMOs and the effect those chemicals will have on the consumer.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), belonging to the World Health Organization (WHO), has recently published an assessment that these chemicals are associated with cancer: organophosphate agrochemicals: glyphosate, tetrachlorvinphos, parathion, malathion, and diazinon.

Malathion is an organophosphate pesticide used to control insects in agriculture, as well as to control mosquitoes and fruit flies. Malathion is banned in the EU.

Tetrachlorvinphos is an insecticide commonly used to control pests in livestock. The chemical is also used in flea treatments for pets. Tetrachlorvinphos is banned in the EU.

Parathion, an extremely toxic insecticide used on agricultural crops. It was banned by both the EU and the U.S. in 2003.

Diazinon, an organophosphate pesticide used to control insects on fruit, vegetable, nut and field crops.

Since these chemicals continue to build up in our system over time I’m suspecting that we’ll see more and more conditions linked to their use in the decades to come. My best recommendation is to start buying organic and local where you can afford. The only way we can get these chemicals out of our food supply is not to support the farmers that use them.

Be Well~
